EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Great Falls College MSU, high school students learn Indigenous paddle carving by making five foot Tlingit paddles with Brandon Gomez from Southeast Alaska. A grant from Great Falls Public Schools led by Director Dugan Coburn supports a project that connects the community with Native American culture.  KXLH
  • Great Falls College MSU hosted a traditional paddle carving session today for high school students, who learned hands-on techniques and cultural history from Brandon Gomez (Tlingit). The grant-backed project connects Indigenous heritage with classroom learning.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cascade City-County Health Department Board of Health discussed budget challenges as rising costs outpaced grant revenues & evaluated nonmandatory grant-funded programs showing a loss. The board will continue reviewing financial reports while managing staffing reductions of 19 positions and shifting roles to meet the challenges.  KRTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • At a Wednesday board meeting, the Cascade City-County Health Department addressed budget challenges as rising costs outpaced grant funds, leading to the review of non-mandated programs and staff cuts. Chairman Joe Briggs said the board will continue to study financial reports to decide which services to support.  KXLH
