COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Great Falls groups, including the Cascade County Sheriff's Office and Big Sky Taekwondo, are offering self-defense training to help residents learn to defend themselves until first responders arrive (training covers escape routes, basic trauma care and movement techniques) as part of community preparedness efforts.  KXLH
  • Great Falls groups are hosting self-defense training to help residents learn basic moves until law enforcement arrives. Cascade County Sheriff's Office and Big Sky Taekwondo will teach escape routes and trauma treatment (including safe movement techniques) for work, school, and home settings.  KRTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tim McGonigal reported from the historic Ursuline Center at 2300 Central Avenue on Monday, offering a video look at the facility's community heritage.  KRTV
  • Great Falls resident Norma Ashby Smith was honored with the Governor's Spirit of Montana award, recognizing her decades-long broadcasting career and over 7,000 live shows as host of Today in Montana + a History Museum exhibit now celebrates her legacy.  KRTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Great Falls Public Library is launching YouthAstroNet today, an eight-week free afterschool program for youth aged 12 to 15 to learn astronomy in partnership with the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, with sessions in the Cordingley Room until March 24.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Greg Gianforte and Lieutenant Governor Kristen Juras recognized Norma Ashby Smith at the Great Falls Rescue Mission last week with the Spirit of Montana award. Norma, a lifelong broadcaster noted for her service and community contributions, received a certificate and flag flown over the State Capitol.  KRTV
