COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Great Falls Development Alliance hosted a task force meeting Tuesday night to discuss concerns over a proposed hyperscale data center. Community members debated issues (water use, energy demand, noise, and light pollution) and officials said that while no proposals are active, further discussions will shape future plans.  KRTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Little Shell Chippewa Tribe will open its new ceremonial center on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11:30 a.m. at 1315 Stuckey Road + the facility will host tribal meetings, community meals, and cultural events as part of a broader housing project.  KXLH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School maintenance directors told lawmakers that schools face a severe funding shortage for basic upkeep. Helena Public Schools’ deferred maintenance exceeded $100 million, and a national report found Montana spends $100 million less annually than needed for repairs + routine upkeep.  Montana Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Voting is open until Feb. 27 for the Tribune's Prep Athlete of the Week contest featuring nominees from local high schools in wrestling and basketball, after last week's wins by CMR wrestlers Paydon De La Garza and Carrina Kaluza.   • The Little Hoopers Basketball League launches in March at Scheels Aim High Aquatic & Recreation Center, offering co-ed play for kindergartners through second graders split into two divisions. Games occur Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings with four on four play, lowered hoops, and basketballs sized for age.  KRTV
