BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mayor Cory Reeves announced Thursday evening that WinCo Foods will move into the old Shopko building while Chick-fil-A plans a build at 711 10th Avenue South; both businesses submitted permits to start their projects and bring new jobs and investment.  KRTV
  • Construction crews have started work on a new gate and outdoor deck at Great Falls International Airport to improve terminal amenities and double United Airlines’ seating capacity. Officials said the expansion may bring new routes and an additional airline by 2027 and is expected to finish in early July.  KXLH

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Great Falls Symphony is planning the annual Black Tie Blue Jeans fundraiser to support its music education programs for local students. The event — featuring dinner, auctions, and live music — will be held today at Newberry in downtown.  KRTV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Great Falls jumped about 25 cents per gallon over the past week due to global tensions (AAA reported fuel now costs around $3.01) and experts warn drivers may face further hikes if conflicts continue and diesel remains particularly expensive for truck owners.  KRTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Great Falls Public Schools held its town hall and announced plans to manage a roughly $2.9 million gap for the 2026-2027 school year. Officials said they will use local reserves and savings from a paid-off energy bond (plus improved utility contracts) while keeping student programs unchanged.  KRTV
  • Katelyn Marsik begins her role as executive director at the public schools foundation supporting local education; a Great Falls High School graduate (with nonprofit experience), she started Monday and plans to build community ties while the outgoing director remains through the end of this month to ease the transition.  KXLH
  • Great Falls Public Schools unanimously approved a $1.29 million contract with Jimmy’s Roofing to replace the roof and drains at Lewis and Clark Elementary to fix ongoing leaks; the work (which follows a CTA Architects study and review of seven bids) is scheduled for this summer.  The Electric

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Calumet announced planned maintenance at its facility on March 11 that will include routine alarm tests at noon and 7:30 p.m. The company said neighbors might notice increased flaring and noise during equipment upgrades and asset inspections by specialized contractors.  The Electric

FINANCE NEWS

  • Great Falls Development Alliance’s FY report for June 2024 shows $9.9 million in revenue with 77.3% from program services and $4.3 million in expenses, resulting in a surplus of $5.6 million. The filing also lists assets of $32.8 million and liabilities of $10.2 million (with about 22 employees).  E-City Beat
