EDUCATION NEWS

  • Great Falls Public Schools declared an emergency closure for Lincoln Elementary today after high winds removed part of its roof. Skilled trades workers began repairs while students are relocated with kindergarten to third staying at Lincoln, fourth attending Lewis and Clark, and fifth and sixth moving to Paris Education Center.  KRTV
  • Great Falls Public Schools is considering adding girls flag football as a club sport for high schools following a March 9 board meeting— athletic director Mike Henneberg reported strong student interest and plans to use a $15,000 annual grant from the Arthur Blank Family Foundation plus potential Under Armor funding.  The Electric

  • The Department of War's SkillBridge program gives service members in their final months a chance to train with local employers, easing their shift to civilian careers.   • Great Falls residents like Shawne Garner face new SNAP work rules that require 20 hours of work weekly to keep food assistance. The policy, launched last November, limits benefits to three months without meeting the requirement.  KXLH
  • Great Falls resident Shawne Garner will soon lose SNAP benefits after federal rules require 20 hours of work per week for eligibility; advocates say the changes—expanded last November and eliminating reservation waivers—are sparking a ripple effect on local food assistance.  KRTV
