ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, powerful winds knocked down trees, flipped semi trucks, and damaged fences in Great Falls and across north-central Montana—gusts locally reached 79 mph while a 104 mph gust hit Judith Peak.  KXLH

CULTURE NEWS

  • Award-winning Montana author Pete Fromm will read passages from his memoir and share his wilderness experiences at the Great Falls Public Library Cordingley Room (301 Second Avenue North) on Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. The reading is part of the Sun River Watershed Speaker Series.  KRTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students returned to classes at Lincoln Elementary after strong winds damaged the roof and scattered debris around the school on Sunday. Kindergarten through third grade remain on campus while fourth through sixth graders have been moved to nearby schools as officials assess repair plans.  KXLH
  • On Wednesday, March 11, KRTV reporters Shiksha Mahtani, Erik Johnson and Tom Wylie visited Ursuline Center where they offered a hands-on newsroom demo for students aged three to five (featuring cameras, drones and mock interviews) to spark interest in journalism.  KRTV
  • University of Providence in Great Falls declared financial exigency as it prepares for the end of a $8 million annual sponsorship from Providence Health in December, planning to re-evaluate academic programs and secure major gifts to meet budget goals.  KRTV
  • Charlene Ammons, the instructional technology coach for Great Falls Public Schools, helps teachers across 15 buildings tackle tech challenges and improve classroom management through group and one-on-one sessions (guiding lesson planning enhancements) (as part of International Women’s Month initiatives).  KXLH
