COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Illumination Recovery will honor Joann Malone’s memory on the two-year anniversary of her death by lighting up the 10th Street pedestrian bridge on Monday, March 17th—inviting community members to share memories of her legacy.  KXLH

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tony Roma's has reopened in Great Falls after being closed for weeks because a water pipe broke from cold weather. It is inside the Holiday Inn at 1100 Fifth Street South and now serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner for hotel guests and locals—its improved menu and catering service are now available— as part of a full service offering.  KRTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montana Superintendent Susie Hedalen said the state is preparing to take a stronger role in federal education funding by moving to a block grant system (hiring extra staff to match the change). She said Title I, special education and USDA school nutrition programs will keep their funds while a local food grant of over $2 million was cut (she is set to meet new federal leaders in D.C. during the last week of the month).  Montana Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two neighborhood councils will hold meetings next week to address local concerns. Neighborhood Council 5 meets at 7 p.m. on March 17th at the Great Falls Clinic Specialty Center conference room at 3000 15th Ave. S and Neighborhood Council 8 meets at 6 p.m. on March 20th at the Great Falls Pre-Release Center Women’s Annex—both meetings include presentations from Neighborworks along with updates on municipal court and traffic study issues.  The Electric
  • At the Cascade County Commission meeting on March 11th, $1.2 million was approved to fund the sheriff’s crisis diversion grant program — an initiative started last year to provide mental health services for inmates. Sheriff Slaughter said more funds are planned soon to expand the program — aiming to keep those with mental illness out of jail.  KRTV
