Western Art Week kicks off in Great Falls today — the event features 15 art shows across 12 locations with nearly 800 artists offering live auctions, educational seminars and live painting demonstrations.

Great Falls tourism expects 3,200 visitors to enjoy free art events that showcase both emerging talent and nationally recognized artists.

Today, state lawmakers held a committee hearing on the STARS Act, a teacher pay bill that offers school districts a share of about $50 million if they raise starting teacher salaries above $41,000 — the bill has wide bipartisan support.

It still needs Senate approval and the governor’s signature to become law.

City Commissioners approved a 5 percent raise for City Manager Greg Doyon and extended his contract until March 24, 2029 during a closed session on March 18—his new salary of $207,756.88 takes effect on March 24.
