COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Great Falls radio club will host the Spring Thaw event on Saturday, May 3rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cascade County DES — the gathering will offer workshops on high power LiPo battery management, soldering, and building portable QRP antennas as well as an emergency communications trailer with licensing information.  KXLH
  • The Great Falls radio club will hold the Spring Thaw Event on Saturday, May 3 at Cascade County DES from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chairman Rodney Jackson said the event—featuring hands-on workshops, emergency communications training, and surplus equipment—will help both licensed ham operators and newcomers learn new skills.  KRTV

CRIME NEWS

  • Bradley Boulduc went to court on March 31 and faces charges for an armed robbery at Stadium Sports Bar on March 25—police said he then led a car chase where he rammed patrol vehicles and a judge set his bond at $500,000 with GPS monitoring required.  The Electric

EDUCATION NEWS

  • From April 3 through 6, SkillsUSA Montana will host statewide competitions in Great Falls with more than 350 students taking part in 43 events focused on technical skills. The program needs 70 volunteer judges to reach a goal of 233+ judges so the events run smoothly.  KXLH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Great Falls Public Works Department is partnering with Veolia North America to host a free hazardous waste collection event on April 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.—at the corner of 1st Street South and 3rd Avenue South; residents can safely dispose of items like gasoline and paint thinner while items such as mercury products will not be accepted.  The Electric

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County officials said burn permits help track burn start and end times—reducing unnecessary 911 calls, and Great Falls Fire Rescue said the city may allow residents to apply for them soon. Residents can check online or in person to see if burning is permitted before they burn.  KXLH
  • The Montana Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a plan to resurface three road sections in Great Falls—Old Havre Highway from Smelter Avenue to U.S. Highway 87, U.S. Highway 87 from south of Old Havre Highway to just past Great Bear Avenue, and River Road from 15 Street North to 38th Street North. Design and funding must be completed before construction is anticipated in 2027.  The Electric
  • At a March 18 meeting, city commissioners discussed using $20,000 from preservation funds for restoring the historic Union Bethel AME church—staff decided the city would not act as the funding pass-through, leaving the Montana State Historic Preservation Office to contract directly with the church.  The Electric
