BUSINESS NEWS

  • Morning Light Coffee Roasters in Great Falls said today that although new tariffs may eventually push up coffee bean prices, the shop will keep prices steady as their bulk supplies remain secure for 6—9 months. Owner Doug Evenhus explained that rising costs for syrups, packaging and transportation are already pressuring daily operations.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flathead National Forest proposed a 20-year permit for Holland Lake Lodge to new buyer Eric Jacobsen—he said he will preserve and protect the lodge in harmony with nature and the community. The public can review and comment on the proposal via the Forest website until May 7.  Montana Public Radio
  • Great Falls Fire Rescue is asking for up to $2.5 million to fix its old training facility—its building has not kept up with fire drill needs. The city commission will review the plan next week as firefighters say they need more space for real practice.  KRTV
  • On April 1, Great Falls city commissioners voted to uphold the permit closing Central Avenue to 9th Street for Cruisin’ the Drag—this 25th anniversary event on May 3 expects 30,000 people. Subaru owner Jeremy Day said the closure will block access to his service and sales and could cost his business over $100,000, but city staff maintained the decision will balance downtown safety and business needs.  The Electric

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Senate committee tabled a bill that would require continued collection of data on violence against health care workers after it passed the House. The report (which recorded 534 instances of violence—mostly against nurses) shows that data collection may end after the current program sunsets this summer.  Montana Public Radio

  • The Tribune invites local sports fans to vote for Prep Athlete of the Week as nominations were announced for track stars including Emerson Hamma, Colter DeVoss, Bree MacDonald, and Addison Smith. Votes will be accepted until Friday at 11:59 p.m.—winners will be announced next week.  Great Falls Tribune
