COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Family Promise of Great Falls will host its fourth fundraiser at the Elks Lodge on Saturday, Apr. 25 at 5 p.m. Neighbors can enjoy rockin 50s music, dancing, food & a silent auction to support families with housing challenges.  KRTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • GFPS Foundation hosted 'Excellence in Education' event on Wednesday, Apr. 22 where 34 students were honored as distinguished scholars and 68 teachers were recognized for their positive impact at local schools, including BNSF Teachers of the Year.  KXLH
  • Education groups unveiled a $1.7 billion plan on April 23 to boost state funding and teacher pay while addressing school funding gaps. The proposal from the Montana Quality Education Coalition may face hurdles when lawmakers meet in January — with tax revenue expected to be lower than usual.  Montana Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Calumet Montana experienced a power outage from an unplanned transformer failure that caused increased flaring at its refinery — crews work to restore power while warning that the flare poses no threat.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cascade County Sheriff's Office and Great Falls Police Department have revived Crisis Intervention Training to help officers manage mental health crises through a week-long, hands-on program with EMS and mental health professionals. More officers will join future training sessions to improve community response.  KRTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Great Falls High and C.M. Russell High will host the Optimist Club Invitational at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Apr. 25, starting at 11:15 a.m. with field events and races beginning at noon (the meet is a midseason state preview for Class AA girls track and field).  Great Falls Tribune
  • C.M. Russell High and Great Falls High boys’ track and field teams are set to compete at the Dahlberg Meet in Butte this Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at Bulldog Memorial Stadium (the event is a midseason state-meet preview featuring top competitors in various events).  Great Falls Tribune
  • The annual Ice Breaker Road Race will take place on Sunday, Apr. 26 in Great Falls with options to run 1, 3, or 5 miles. Registered racers receive a long-sleeve t-shirt, finisher’s medal, and entry into prize drawings — packet pickup begins Sat, Apr. 25 at the Convention Center.  KRTV
