COMMUNITY NEWS

  • NeighborWorks Great Falls is working with the Hi-Line Climbing Center to hold Community Climbing Day, a fundraiser celebrating the center’s eighth anniversary at 608 First Avenue South on May 3 from noon to 2 p.m. The event will offer raffle drawings, $1 climbing, and BBQ—donations will help support NeighborWorks Great Falls.  KRTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nicole Maria Evans, Interim Executive Director at the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art, was named the 2024 Montana Museum Person of the Year at the Museum Association of Montana Conference in Bozeman—she earned the honor for her work on exhibits and service with museum groups like the Great Falls Museum Consortium—and she has shared her expertise as a guest speaker at events including the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Great Falls is accepting applications for a Public Library Board of Trustees opening (a five-member board that advises the library and meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 4:30 p.m.) with the term lasting through June 30; applicants must reside within city limits and submit their forms by May 20 at 5:00 p.m.  E-City Beat
  • Legislators have not agreed on two property tax bills—House Bill 231 and Senate Bill 542—that aim to lower residential taxes, so both will go to a conference committee for further review. Lawmakers may decide to combine the bills before the session ends on May 5.  The Electric
  • The City of Great Falls is asking residents to join over 20 city boards, commissions, and councils to help make local decisions. Applications for positions such as the Audit Committee and the Library Board are accepted until May 20th at 5 p.m. at the City Manager's Office (2 Park Drive South, Room 201) in the Civic Center.  KRTV
  • Great Falls Rising held a candidate forum at Great Falls College-MSU on April 23 where four candidates—Craig Duff, Gordon Johnson, Tony Rosales, and Paige Turoski—discussed plans for the board while the mail-only election ballots have been sent to residents and are due by May 6. This forum aimed to inform voters about shaping school policies and addressing issues like budget cuts and teacher retention.  KRTV

  • Upslope Group is planning Meadowview Village — a 27.03 acre development with 163 lots, indoor pickleball courts and a dog park — on Central Avenue and 46th Street South following unanimous support from local planning bodies. The project will be presented to the City Commission on May 6, with a final decision expected on June 3.  KRTV
