CULTURE NEWS

  • The Great Falls Public Library will host its annual Friends of the Library book sale from May 15 through May 24 at 301 Second Avenue North—items include used books, movies, music, games, puzzles and more with proceeds supporting the library. The sale features full-price days, half-price days and a sack sale where shoppers bring their own bag for $5 deals.  KRTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks announced that educational programs will be held in May at First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park, three miles north of Ulm, and Tower Rock State Park, about 8 miles south of Cascade. The events include a weed pull on May 13 at First Peoples, a snake safety session on May 17, and ranger-led Jump Talks every Saturday starting May 24, plus a weed pull on May 31 at Tower Rock—Montana residents get free entry with annual registration while nonresidents must purchase a park pass.  The Electric

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Great Falls lawmakers said the 69th legislative session ended with key wins such as a balanced budget, the largest income tax cut, a rebalanced property tax system offering a $400 homeowner rebate, and expanded Medicaid—factors that also helped boost starting teacher pay. They noted bipartisan cooperation and now are meeting with constituents to gather feedback on these accomplishments.  KRTV
  • City Commissioners will be asked this week to set a public hearing on May 20 to decide if the ethics committee, started in 2017 to review complaints, should be dissolved—staff say sending complaints directly to the Cascade County attorney will lower legal costs and ease staff burdens—and officials expect a more objective process.  The Electric
  • The Air Force will hold town halls this month on the Sentinel missile project with meetings scheduled for May 13 at 6 p.m. in Lewistown, May 14 at 5 p.m. in Fairfield, and May 15 at 6 p.m. at West Elementary School in Great Falls. Residents may submit questions at the events—this effort comes as the program is restructured following cost overruns—while officials plan to review the project timeline and construction details.  The Electric
