COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A rally for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons took place in Great Falls on May 5 in honor of the National Day of Awareness for missing and murdered indigenous women and girls. The event highlighted that Native women faced murder rates more than 10 times the national average—while Montana indigenous women were four times more likely to be reported missing.  KRTV
  • Give Great Falls, an annual week of giving for nonprofits in Great Falls and Cascade County, concluded with 64 organizations participating — raising $60,200 in donations. Local leaders praised the campaign’s success — saying it increased donor participation and community support.  KRTV

  • Great Falls Symphony conductor Grant Harville will lead his final performance on May 10—after eight seasons he will join his family in British Columbia to begin a new chapter.  KRTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The unofficial school board election results show that Great Falls Public Schools are contesting three seats with Paige Turoski receiving 7,942 votes, Gordon Johnson 7,295, and Craig Duff 6,806. Cascade School District is contesting two seats with Erik Ingman earning 249 votes, Christopher Kunkel 166, and Heather Boberg 110 — all counts remain unofficial until the county canvass certifies the results.  The Electric

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Cascade County can buy and activate burn permits online, in person, or by phone to help firefighters avoid unnecessary emergencies & ensure proper wildfire precautions. In Great Falls, open burning is prohibited and residents are advised to check local regulations before starting any fires & follow all safety guidelines.  KRTV

  • Great Falls Fire Rescue — using its brush truck outfitted with a lightweight hose — held its annual wildland-urban interface training near Fox Farm Road and 45th Street SW to prepare firefighters to defend homes from grass fires.  KRTV
  • A wrap of local news shows Great Falls Public Schools held elections where incumbents Paige Turoski and Gordon Johnson kept their seats—Craig Duff won the third seat and Cascade voters approved technology levies. The city is considering dissolving its ethics committee and raising garbage fees and street assessments—while the Air Force will host town halls on the Sentinel missile upgrade next week and hearings are set for Calumet tax protests and a Montana Renewables appeal.  The Electric

  • The Tribune is holding a poll for Prep Athlete of the Week where fans, coaches, and athletic directors can vote and submit nominations for top high school athletes from Northcentral Montana & voting closes Friday at 11:59 p.m. Last week’s winners include Hailey Marr of C.M.   • The Rustlers hit three clutch home runs in the seventh inning to edge Great Falls High 9-8 Tuesday at Multi-Sports Complex — keeping their season alive for a state play-in spot.
