- ➤ Downtown business owners in Great Falls have long dealt with the challenges of loitering by homeless and transient individuals that raise safety concerns and affect business operations—one owner reported seeing 6 to 8 people loitering by an abandoned building. Local police are working with these business partners to find community solutions despite a drop in 911 calls overall and the impact of last year's failed levy. KRTV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kelsey Jo Staigmiller, 31, faces charges—robbery, theft, and burglary—in Cascade County for allegedly entering Sarah Bailey’s pickup on May 18, sparking a struggle that resulted in her fatal injuries and led her to flee Great Falls before being caught near Bonner. KRTV

- ➤ Great Falls Public Schools honored custodian Patrick Johnson on May 21st at Paris Gibson Education Center for his 35 years of service and positive impact with students (he is known as a trusted friend and mentor). KXLH
- ➤ On May 21, 2025, about 100 high school students visited Giant Springs State Park to learn about invasive species and pull spotted knapweed as part of the Pull Your Share Program — Montana Department of Agriculture educator Megan Hoyer said the effort helped reduce the spread of the weed that infests millions of acres statewide. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Montana Department of Transportation will host an open house on June 4th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at West Elementary School auditorium to review plans for fixing Ninth Street NW from Central Avenue West to the Northwest Bypass—teams will replace old pavement, fix storm drains and signals, and add new ADA sidewalks, with work set to start in 2026 if funds and final design are approved. - ➤ Great Falls Fire Rescue is training today at 1216 10th Avenue South in the Holiday Village Mall parking lot. Crews will use fire trucks, simulate smoke, and wear full gear as they train through Friday, May 23—people are asked to avoid the area. KRTV
- ➤ Legislators approved House Bill 207—signed by Gov. Gianforte on May 12—which changes filing dates for the November city election by moving the filing opening to May 27 and the closing to June 11. Candidates who filed under the old rules remain unaffected. The Electric
