- ➤ Council members from the Air Force Sergeant's Association, base volunteers and the VFW placed hundreds of American flags on veterans' graves and cleaned Highland Cemetery—getting the site ready for Memorial Day observance. - ➤ Inflation and new tariffs on imported goods have led Great Falls shoppers to turn to local stores to find better deals. Local pawn shops, flea markets and the upcoming Swap-A-Rama event at Montana ExpoPark on June 6 and 7 are expected to boost community spending. KXLH
- ➤ Rising tariffs and high prices have many Great Falls shoppers turning to local stores like pawn shops and flea markets to save money. The Swap-A-Rama event will be held on June 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and June 7th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Montana ExpoPark’s Trades & Industries and Mercantile Buildings — local businesses expect the event to boost local spending — as analysts say the trend may grow. - ➤ At a recent launch party held at Rendezvous at 410 in downtown Great Falls, diocesan officials unveiled plans to rebrand three Catholic schools with a new logo, uniform fashion show, architectural renderings, and new blue and green colors — along with a Wolfhounds mascot. Students will keep their current campus names for now as preparations begin for a unified K-12 campus with the new names St. Patrick’s Academy West, St. Patrick’s Academy East, and St. Patrick’s Academy High School starting next year. - ➤ On May 22, the two newest Great Falls Fire Rescue firefighters trained with live fire in a metal structure set for demolition to learn fire behavior and gear use. City officials have voted to apply for a $2.5 million loan for a new training center (which will allow more varied scenarios) and the department is buying a mobile training prop due in July to keep training going until the facility is rebuilt. - ➤ The Emergency Services Center held another Hiring Blitz on Thursday, May 22 to find more 911 dispatchers in Great Falls— they need 21 but have only 15. Deputy Director Kelly Johanneck said the event cut six weeks off the hiring process so the center could answer calls faster. KRTV
- ➤ Starting June 1 through August 31, the City of Great Falls will offer free parking for two hours at the North Parking Garage downtown plus charge 50 cents per hour thereafter. Last summer’s trial saw a 144.8% boost in parking visits, and city officials hope the plan will increase downtown activity and fund garage improvements. KRTV
- ➤ Gov. Greg Gianforte signed new laws that will use part of marijuana tax revenue to fund conservation projects such as building wildlife crossings and improving public lands. The bill sets aside nearly $60 million from annual sales and allocates roughly $12 million to a habitat legacy account—funding that will begin on July 1 to support long-term wildlife protection.
