COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Montana Bar Fairies have launched a local program in Great Falls where volunteers leave envelopes with a gift card and a thank-you note on parked cars after a night out at bars. Director Delisa Protsman said the service, which starts at 5:45 a.m. on weekend mornings, will reward safe choices and work with local groups as thousands are expected to travel this holiday weekend.  KRTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 21, 2025, Great Falls Public Schools hosted a longevity celebration to honor long-serving and retiring staff with awards—many employees, including Paris Gibson custodian Patrick Johnson who has worked 35 years on the job, were recognized for their service.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mansfield Theater at Great Falls Civic Center is removing its old seats to install newer, more comfortable chairs funded by a $1 million state grant. The new seats—expected to be installed by October—will upgrade the theater for upcoming performances.  KRTV
  • County officials met on May 19 to plan a sheriff's office budget that may add an ICE contract, absorb the disaster and emergency services office, and use a $6.5 million state grant to boost crisis response and mental health services. They also discussed hiring reserve deputies, reducing jail crowding, and securing funding for STD testing — moves aimed at strengthening community safety.  The Electric
  • After a landmark court ruling that required Montana to factor climate impacts in fossil fuel projects, state lawmakers fast tracked a suite of bills aimed at limiting the ruling’s scope — including one that inventories greenhouse gas emissions but bars new regulations unless the federal government intervenes. Sixteen young Montanans who won the case say the legislative moves favor the fossil fuel industry over robust climate protection and set the stage for future legal challenges.  Montana Public Radio
