- ➤ The first Downtown Night Market will start on Friday, June 27 along Central Avenue from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature local vendors, food trucks, live music and a beer tent — the event is free while upcoming markets are set for July 25 on the 100 and 200 blocks and August 8 on the 500 and 600 blocks. - ➤ BASF unveiled its new canola hybrid, InVigor Gold (a yellow-seeded seed built to withstand heat and drought), on Tuesday in Great Falls at the University of Providence, where Governor Gianforte and local producers attended the event. BASF plans a U.S. commercial release in 2027. KRTV
- ➤ Hometana bought a building at 117 Central Ave in April and will move there after Christmas from its current spot on 1st Ave S—Prolific Basketball Academy is planning a 32,607-square-foot facility at the airport with a 40-year lease, and the International Economic Development Council is hosting a Rural Retreat with 400 visitors. The Montana Association for the Blind will hold a free orientation at the Ursuline Center on June 28, Green Apple Behavioral Health has moved to 1219 Central Ave, and Cost Cutters will close on June 29. - ➤ Whisper Rayne Hawkbear was sentenced on June 23 for deliberate homicide after admitting to killing her two-month-old son and injuring her toddler daughter in an April 2023 incident in Great Falls—she received a 100-year prison term from the court. KXLH
- ➤ Kaele Romero was charged with two felony counts of criminal distribution of dangerous drugs and a felony count of transferring illegal articles after a February 9 incident at the Cascade County Adult Detention Center when investigators found drug-filled straw packages during a visit—she was arrested on June 20 near Great Falls after a traffic stop linked her to the smuggling. - ➤ The 15th annual 'Waking The Dead' tours will be held on Sunday, June 29 at Highland Cemetery (2010 33rd Ave South) where storytellers will visit ten graves at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; tickets cost $20 to ride or $15 to walk with free admission for children 14 and under and are available at Kaufmans Menswear (415 Central Avenue) downtown, and participants will get a booklet with photos and grave stories at the conclusion. - ➤ The city met its first fundraising goal for the Roots Revival campaign by selling the initial 35 trees and raising about $25,000 for planting in Gibson Park—city forester Todd Seymanski said the campaign will soon aim to sell an additional 14 trees, with six to eight still available. - ➤ Today, Cascade County is starting repairs on Black Eagle Road that are expected to take about two weeks weather permitting — the work involves removing old asphalt and laying new material, and county officials ask drivers to follow detour signs, road closures, and reduced speed limits.
