Good morning, Great Falls.
Three dancers from Sole Dance Academy in Great Falls have been chosen to join Team USA for the World Dance Championship in Brussels this fall—Blakelee Bell, Collyns Yurek, and Madelyn Hart will compete against more than 30 other nations.
The week-long competition will showcase their talent on an international stage.
The Bureau of Land Management reminds visitors that fireworks and pyrotechnics are not allowed on public lands, which include national monuments, recreation areas, campgrounds, and undeveloped lands (across Montana and the Dakotas) to help prevent wildfires and property damage.
Visitors are advised to check current fire restrictions before planning any celebration with fireworks.
On June 25, a city garbage truck and a civilian vehicle crashed near the intersection of the Northwest Bypass and 6th Street Northwest, hitting the north side of Fire Rescue Station 2 and sending one person to the hospital as investigators examine the incident.
City officials approved a $2.5 million loan to fund a new fire training center — demolition of an existing tower is scheduled for July while temporary repairs keep the station operational until a full rebuild begins next year.
Governor Gianforte vetoed a bipartisan bill that would have expanded free school meals by covering parent copays — he said federal programs already provide enough support and the bill’s $3 million cost lacked proper legislative funding.
City Commissioners extended the energy contract with Guzman Energy for three years during their June 17 meeting to keep costs low amid market jitters from unrest in the Middle East.
City Manager Greg Doyon said rates did not meet the approved parameters so the city will wait for new competitive quotes in the coming weeks.
On June 24, Cascade County Commissioners approved a contract with Great Falls Public Schools to provide two certified teachers at the Juvenile Detention Center, covering the next two school years with an option to renew automatically.
The agreement requires the teachers to offer 187 days of instruction and mandates the county reimburse GFPS up to $70,000 annually for one teacher’s cost — ensuring educational support for detained youth.
