COMMUNITY NEWS

  • North Central Independent Living Services hosted a picnic Monday (July 21) to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which prevents discrimination in public and private spaces; the event comes before the official observance this Friday (July 25).  KXLH

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Montana Renewables announced plans to build an on-site water treatment plant at its Great Falls facility to process water in-house and increase oil output+ the company hopes to break ground by the end of the year, though a DOE loan might delay the start date.  KRTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On July 21, the Great Falls Public Schools board approved three new labor agreements for the teachers union, technology staff and operating engineers—covering roughly 750, 11 and 93 employees—and updated administrative salaries that include a four percent raise for 47 positions to meet the STARS Act requirements. The district will mail updated contracts to employees this week.  The Electric
  • Great Falls Public Schools has proposed a draft calendar for the 2025-2026 year that shortens spring break while inviting community input from 1,294 voters via Google Drive. The district will review the poll results to choose a final calendar that meets state rules and community needs — a process that also balances holidays, instruction days, and testing schedules.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Great Falls city commissioners approved two labor agreements during their July 15 meeting—one for a local crafts council of 116 employees and another for 11 911 dispatchers. Both contracts run from July 1 to June 30, 2027—adding wage raises, cost-of-living increases and a shift in insurance premium costs.  The Electric
  • On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Great Falls City Commissioners held a work session at the Civic Center to discuss limiting fireworks to novelty and ground devices after a recent fatal fire, with residents sharing mixed views. The commission planned a first reading on July 22 and scheduled another work session in the coming weeks—steps that could put the measure on the November ballot.  KRTV
