CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Montana State Fair will begin tomorrow in Great Falls and run until Sunday, August 2, offering carnival rides, horse racing, competitive exhibits, and headlining live shows (from Jo Dee Messina to Lecrae). Ticket prices range from $7 to $10 with discounts available for seniors, youth, and children (10-admission packs are sold in increments of 10). KXLH
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School officials announced that Luke Diekhans is taking over as Business Manager for Great Falls Public Schools today, replacing retired Brian Patrick. He said he will build relationships and address potential federal funding cuts as the district plans its next steps. KRTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City Commissioners directed staff on July 22 to draft a resolution to put a question on the November ballot to revise the fireworks ordinance—though some commissioners are against this approach. They will meet again on July 29 to set a public hearing at the Aug 5 meeting during which a vote will be held—if the question fails, the current ordinance will remain unchanged. The Electric
- ➤ The Montana Department of Transportation and Ti-Zack Concrete will begin resurfacing 6th Street Northwest/Southwest between 10th Avenue South and 10th Avenue Southwest the week of July 28, temporarily closing northbound traffic—drivers must use 10th Avenue South to reach Interstate 15. Once the northbound work is complete, crews will reopen those lanes and close the same section for southbound traffic for about two weeks per direction. The Electric
- ➤ Great Falls Neighborhood Councils are advisory groups that provide input on city issues such as finance, planning, and parks. The nine councils, each made up of five elected members serving two-year terms, meet regularly at local venues (school libraries, community centers) to share neighborhood concerns with the City Commission and other agencies. - ➤ Great Falls City Commissioners approved a plan to secure up to $2.5 million in financing for renovations to the Fire Training Center — the training tower was demolished this week as the first step. Fire Chief Jeremy Jones said the demolition followed decades of disrepair that had limited proper firefighter training. KRTV
