CRIME NEWS

  • Terry Graeter was charged with felony arson for setting fire to the Ace Hardware store at 215 N.W. Bypass on August 7 at 4:30 p.m.—video shows him alone behind the building before smoke appeared and damage reached at least $20,000—and he previously faced an arson charge in June that was resolved with a reduced charge while his bond has now been set at $50,000.  The Electric
  • A suspect was charged with arson after he reportedly started a fire outside Ace Hardware on the northwest side of Great Falls at about 4:30 p.m. on August 7th—court documents show Terry Alan Graeter was seen bending near the spot just before smoke billowed and that damage was estimated at $20,000—as Great Falls Fire Rescue quickly put out the blaze.  KRTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Justin Bieber had lunch at Roadhouse Diner in Great Falls a few days ago after his album success, where he ordered the diner’s famous PBJ burger and took photos with staff who said he was the nicest guy. Photos posted online went viral—one fan bought the seat cushion he used for $300, with the money shared among the cooks and servers.  KXLH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • This week, Cascade County officers completed active shooter response training that taught them solo tactics, room clearing techniques and live-fire simulations in realistic, simulated settings. The instructor course used airsoft guns and real weapons to help officers practice making quick decisions in high-pressure scenarios — a key measure to better protect lives.  KXLH
  • City Commissioners voted 3-2 on Aug. 5 to approve a conditional use permit for a marijuana cultivation facility at 748 Crescent Circle after Flower requested it — noting that cultivation needs a permit in I-1 zones while it is allowed by right in I-2 zones. The permit includes conditions for odor control, security and operations — ensuring the project meets local guidelines and state rules.  The Electric
  • Town halls for the Sentinel project scheduled for Aug. 19 in Lewistown, Aug. 20 at Conrad, and Aug. 28 in Nebraska have been canceled while the session in Minot will take place as planned. The Air Force said it will continue work on the ICBM replacement project - including restructuring efforts after rising costs - and will provide further updates later this fall.  The Electric
