- ➤ Starting in September, the Great Falls Animal Shelter will expand thanks to donations from ASPCA and local community members. The shelter will add 20 new dog kennels, two meet and greet kennels, gazebos and an outdoor activity area to give dogs more time outdoors. KXLH
- ➤ The Electric is holding its sixth annual Great Falls Greats contest to spotlight local businesses and places through a write-in vote format; voting opened August 7th and continues until August 17th—winners will be announced on August 23rd at KellerGeist during its 8th anniversary party. - ➤ GFPD and CCSO worked with federal agents in a six-person team to search for an Anaconda shooting suspect last week and arrested Michael Paul Brown on August 8 in connection with the Owl Bar murder, and he is now held at Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center. The Electric
- ➤ Bryant Mikkelson, an outfitter from Timber Mountain Outfitters in Buffalo, was charged with a misdemeanor after he killed a grizzly bear on May 27 while hunting for black bear in the Highwood Mountains in Chouteau County—he failed to report the killing within five days and will face a change of plea hearing on September 9 in Great Falls following an agreement to one year of probation and a $10,000 fine—. - ➤ On Friday, August 8, the Great Falls Police Department said a man illegally entered the Civic Center at 2 Park Drive at about 5:57 a.m.—the doors were locked when he got inside and police are asking for help identifying him. KRTV

- ➤ Downtown Great Falls is alive with the annual mural festival now known as Great Walls Great Falls, which runs until August 17 and shows 10 new murals along its alley walls. The event adds a spray-painting workshop led by longtime curator Cameron Moberg—teaching local artists new techniques. KXLH

- ➤ County commissioners voted on Aug. 12 to begin donating 10 acres of county land to NeighborWorks Great Falls for affordable housing— the nonprofit said it will build 25 single-family homes on the once-used baseball fields while county staff prepares the transfer documents. The Electric
- ➤ Great Falls city commissioners approved the annual budget today that keeps services running while cutting some Park & Recreation employees even though expenses are up nearly 5.5% on almost $170 million in revenue; state rules limit tax increases to half the rate of inflation, which has frozen public safety funding. Commissioner Joe McKenney said the city manages its budget every day to meet rising costs. KRTV
