COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today at MacKenzie River Pizza on River Drive South, the restaurant will host its annual Tip-A-Cop event to raise funds for Special Olympics Montana which supports more than 3,800 people with disabilities. The event uses Celebrity Servers to collect extra tips as part of an official Law Enforcement Torch Run—an annual tradition since 2011.  KRTV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Several new businesses and restaurants are being built in Great Falls as Panera Bread is under construction at 1322 10th Avenue South, Texas Roadhouse is being built at 1216 10th Avenue South, and Pizza Ranch is expected to open soon at 2515 10th Avenue South. Other changes include a Spirit Halloween now open at Holiday Village Mall along with recent openings from Best Wok, Asian Mix, Windy City Liquidations, Soda Station and Swing & Meat, while Chick-fil-A is reviewing a preliminary traffic study for its future site at 711 10th Avenue South — marking busy developments across the local scene.  KXLH

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday, Cascade County detention officer Lloyde Paul Ogden, Jr.—on paid leave—was arrested at a Great Falls home after a family disturbance call and now faces felony assault with a weapon and misdemeanor partner/family assault charges following reports of armed, suicidal behavior and previous domestic incidents.  KRTV
  • On Sunday, August 17, a person died in a one-vehicle crash at the intersection of Central Avenue and Ninth Street in Great Falls before 3:30 a.m.—Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter confirmed the death but did not release the name.  KRTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Great Falls Public Schools will switch to a new math curriculum called Amplify Desmos Math at the start of the school year because the old materials did not meet state standards. Teachers at Longfellow Elementary (already training) said the program was chosen after teachers, community members, and administrators worked together (to meet updated requirements) to help students learn math.  KXLH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, September 13, the City of Great Falls Public Works Environmental Division and Veolia North America will host a household hazardous waste collection event at 112 First Street South near the Great Falls Police Department, running from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Residents may drop off household chemicals like antifreeze, gasoline, lighter fluid, paint thinner, road flares and more — but commercial waste and latex-based paint will not be accepted.  KRTV
