- ➤ The Little Shell Tribe held its annual powwow in Great Falls as dancers in full regalia from Montana and nearby states filled the arena to celebrate Native culture and community. The event, which has grown since 2010—when it first began—is reported to have had its largest turnout and ended on August 24. KXLH
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Scammers are targeting customers at gas stations and parking lots by selling discount 'gas station gold' that is fake and often leaves a metallic odor, and local business managers warn residents—especially seniors—to have items tested before buying. KXLH
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Great Falls Public Schools welcomed more than 1,500 staff—including 75 new teachers—at a convocation held Monday at the C.M. Russell High School fieldhouse, where Native American students performed an honor song. Keynote speaker Sydne Jacques encouraged all staff to build meaningful connections as first day of classes is set for Wednesday, August 27. KRTV

- ➤ A Bear Aware workshop will be held in Great Falls on September 4 to teach residents how to reduce bear activity on their property with FWP bear biologists demonstrating safety techniques using inert bear spray. Organized by Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, Sun River Watershed Group, and High Plains Conservation District, the event at 3615 29th Street SW will open its doors at 6:00 p.m.—attendees will be entered in a raffle to win bear spray and a holster. - ➤ The intersection at 11th Avenue South and 28th Street South is closed from Aug. 25 to 28 for work on the Benefis Aging Services Center project while downtown streets undergo drainage improvements to reduce flooding—temporary barricades and detour signage are provided to keep access to local businesses open. - ➤ Great Falls Public Schools will launch high school baseball in 2026 if the community fundraising committee reaches its next goal; the group raised $101,000 by July 31—covering start-up costs for uniforms, helmets, and equipment—and must now raise an extra $95,050 by Jan. 31 for operating expenses.
