COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hundreds of motorcycle riders gathered at the U-Haul lot on 10th Avenue South on Thursday and were escorted by police and fire departments through Great Falls in an annual 9/11 tribute organized by the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club—ending at the Montana Veterans Memorial.  KXLH
  • The Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center closed on Friday at 1:50 p.m.—staff said the shutdown was for a deep cleaning following a large incoming rescue of animals, and the closure is not linked to the Billings incident.  KRTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • This fall the City of Great Falls Park + Recreation Department will launch a creative challenge on the River's Edge Trail that asks residents to take a selfie with five sculptures and send in their photos by October 31. Dozens of sculptures, including Grizzly Bear, Saxophone, Moose, Tool Tree, T-Rex and Iris, are on display along the trail for participants to choose from.  KXLH
  • The Arts On Fire festival takes place today from 10 am to 4 pm on the museum grounds at 1400 First Avenue North and offers workshops, live music, food vendors, museum tours, and hands-on art projects for Great Falls locals. Education Director Liz Slot said the event began from local ceramic group gatherings and has grown into one of the city's largest end-of-summer celebrations.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city planning board recommended $300k in tax increment financing funds for the second phase of development on 300 acres of airport land west of the county jail—these funds will build four to six new bays for business use and extend utility lines along Ulm Frontage Road. The airport authority will use the money to boost light industrial space.  The Electric

HEALTH NEWS

  • Airmen, families, and community members gathered on September 12 at Malmstrom Air Force Base for the Ruck for Life event to raise awareness for suicide prevention—participants carried weighted backpacks to show the burden of stress and competed for trophies while building support. The event, held during National Suicide Prevention Month, reminded everyone that no one faces their struggles alone.  KXLH
