COMMUNITY NEWS

  • High school junior Austin Parris—an Eagle Scout candidate—revitalized the St. Thomas Child & Family Center by sanding, repairing and repainting worn-out benches and picnic tables after the center contacted the Scout office for help.  KRTV
  • The Great Falls Animal Shelter features Pets Of The Week, highlighting Tira, an energetic girl seeking an active home, and Cami, a sweet girl who needs a family to help build her confidence. Interested families can visit the shelter at 1010 25th Avenue NE.  KRTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Great Falls Symphony announced its largest unrestricted donation—a $500K gift from longtime patron Diane Volk’s family—to support its youth orchestra, now known as the Diane & Roy Volk Youth Orchestra, as part of its five-year strategic plan. The donation will help fund instrument rentals and sustain the program for young musicians in the community.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city approved a $721,300 contract to United Materials for street reconstruction around Carter Park; the project will rebuild 6th Avenue South, 7th Avenue South and 4th Street South—adding ADA improvements—and began on Sept. 22 with work expected to finish on Nov. 21, which will close 4th Street South while keeping business access on 3rd Street South open.  The Electric
  • On Sept 16, city commissioners approved final payment for the completed 4th Avenue North street reconstruction from 9th to 14th Street. The project addressed aging pavement issues and added ADA ramps—one tree was replaced with two new trees.  The Electric
  • City Commissioners approved final payment on Sept 16 to Sletten Construction for the water treatment plant solids mitigation project that treats Missouri River water—this final payment of $299,870.22 to Sletten and $3,028.99 to the state tax fund completes the $11 million project at a cost of about $11,110,162.  The Electric
  • City Commissioners approved a $99,220 contract with Garrett Parks and Play on Sept. 16 for poured-in-place surfacing at Morony Park — using federal Community Development Block Grant dollars. They also approved a $92,200 contract with Grondahl Recreation for an ADA play system and will hold a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. Sept. 25.  The Electric
  • Great Falls is working with United Materials of Great Falls, Inc.—the street reconstruction near Carter Park started September 22nd and will continue until November 21st, closing 4th St S and parts of 6th and 7th Ave S while keeping business access on 3rd St S open. The contractor will provide barricades, cones, and closure signs to help direct traffic.  KRTV
  • City Commissioners approved $24,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding to Montana Legal Services Association to support the Housing Justice Project in Great Falls—helping 15 low-to-moderate-income residents with housing legal issues later this year until August 2026. This project will cover all legal fees so that tenants do not pay out-of-pocket costs.  KXLH

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new Terry Preite Memorial Garden—dedicated on her 68th birthday—to honor the late hospice leader was unveiled at Benefis Peace Hospice, where it is open to the public on the southwest lawn at 2600 15th Avenue South. The garden features sculptures, walking paths, quiet spaces and one of Montana’s first wind phones in a custom-built gazebo.  KXLH

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Pet Paw-see features Lisa—a young squitten with underdeveloped forelegs—for adoption at Petsmart at Holiday Village Mall in Great Falls. Volunteers answer questions every Saturday from noon until 3 p.m., and Lisa's condition, known as radial hypoplasia, gives her a unique appeal.  KRTV
