GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the city begins a two-month project to replace aging water mains on the northwest side along 13th Street NW between 5th Ave NW and Central Ave West using cast iron and asbestos cement pipes installed from 1948 to 1961. Parts of 13th Street will close on Oct 2-3 for asphalt milling, and detour signage will guide traffic while Central Plumbing, Heating, Excavation, awarded a $1.6 million contract, works to upgrade the system—access to residences, West Elementary, and local businesses will remain available. - ➤ The city's downtown drainage improvement project closed the intersection of 1st Avenue South and 5th Street South beginning Sept. 30 for eight weeks, with parts of 1st Avenue South reopening in October as work continues—further work will add storm drains, replace aging water mains, and repair ADA ramps, with completion expected by November. - ➤ On Sept. 25, Great Falls International Airport hosted an emergency exercise that simulated a Boeing 737 crash after a pilot suffered a medical emergency. Local law enforcement, fire crews and customs officers coordinated victim triage and patient transport—practicing mass casualty protocols for real incidents. The Electric
