ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Environmental groups—the Montana Environmental Information Center and Western Environmental Law Center—filed a new lawsuit in Yellowstone County District Court against the Department of Environmental Quality over the permit for NorthWestern Energy’s Yellowstone County Generating Station. The groups say the agency’s new analysis did not correctly calculate the plant’s full greenhouse gas emissions over its lifetime.  Montana Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State health officials in Montana are asking hospitals, clinics & other providers to suggest how to spend funds from a $50 billion federal Rural Health Transformation fund that includes an expected $500 million allotment for the state. A webinar & public comment session will be held today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. with registration required.  Montana Public Radio
  • Great Falls Fire Rescue chief Jeremy Jones retired Tuesday, September 30 after nearly 30 years of service and began his new role as deputy city manager. He was honored at Station One with a golden axe and plaques—marking his strong bonds with colleagues over his career.  KRTV
  • The federal government shutdown has forced the Lewis — Clark Interpretive Center to close, stopping over 200 daily visitor trips and delaying key community events. Alluvion Health said it can maintain services for 12 to 16 months while it waits for lawmakers to resolve federal funding issues.  KRTV
