- ➤ On October 15, National White Cane Day honored the white cane as a tool for independence and equal access for blind and visually impaired people. Students and teachers at the Montana School for the Deaf — along with community interviews — stressed the need to follow the law and improve sidewalks and crosswalks for safer navigation. KRTV

- ➤ Towneplace Suites by Marriott, a 109-room hotel at 525 3rd St. N.W., opened on Oct.14 as part of a tax increment financing plan for West Bank, and Great Falls Public Schools will give each first grader a pumpkin on Oct.21-22 to continue a 20-year tradition—other local events include a Bootlegger Ball with live jazz at the History Museum on Oct.25 and a free Halloween concert by the Great Falls Symphony at Mansfield Theater on Oct.31. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montana State Prison inmates visited at-risk youth in Great Falls yesterday as part of the Choices in the 406 program run by the Alliance for Youth and Great Falls Public Schools Restart program (which shows teens how poor choices lead to jail). The inmates shared their personal jail experiences and warned that one bad decision can change a life, urging the teens to ask for help if they struggle. KRTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents and business owners have raised safety concerns about the busy Northwest Bypass. The Montana Department of Transportation will widen the road by adding a new westbound left-turn lane and an eastbound right-turn lane at 34th Street+installing sidewalks, curbs and gutters near Watson Coulee with construction set to begin in summer 2027. - ➤ J.D. Lofgren, a new linebacker from Nebraska, has boosted C.M. Russell High's defense and helped the Rustlers rise in the standings after a big win last week. The team hosts Billings Skyview today at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium and coach A.J.
