COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Great Falls Community Food Bank will host its Day of Giving on Dec. 9 (at both Albertsons), collecting food and financial contributions to support over 70 local agencies including pantries, shelters, and programs. The event drives food security during the busy holiday season and prepares for lean summer months.  KRTV
  • Downtown Great Falls Christmas Stroll is set for today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. — featuring arts and food vendors, music, and a Polar Plunge at 7 p.m. at Fourth Street and Central Avenue — which will raise funds for Special Olympics Montana.  KRTV
  • Great Falls Rescue Mission announced Carrie Matter will become its new executive director in April — she is the first woman to lead the organization, succeeding Jim McCormick after 15 years.  KRTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Great Falls Ski Patrol will use its biggest fundraiser of the year to cover training and equipment costs (supporting 40 to 50 patrollers) as the Banff Mountain Film Festival screens adventure films on Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. at Great Falls High School Davidson Auditorium.  KRTV
  • Brandon Horrocks, one of six candidates for the new conductor, will lead the nearly sold-out Great Falls Symphony Christmas concert on Dec. 7 with the orchestra & choir. His program will feature both classic carols and unique pieces to engage local audiences.  The Electric

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sacajawea Elementary hosted its annual school plunge on Thursday, where students donating $100 were doused with ice-cold water for Special Olympics Montana. The event raised $6,200 and links to the Polar Plunge at Downtown Christmas Stroll on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. near Gills Point Tire and Auto.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After months of appeals, the federal Department of Agriculture said farmers and ranchers will get a bridge payment by year-end amid record-high supply costs + reduced market options, and Montana farmers await more details.  Montana Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Great Falls Fire Rescue reminds residents to keep live Christmas trees watered and plug lights directly into wall outlets (avoid stacking power strips) to prevent fires. The agency also advises cutting 2 inches from the tree trunk and placing trees at least three feet from heat sources.  KRTV
