COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members gathered at the Hampton Inn Tuesday evening to support launching high school baseball at local schools, aiming to raise $95,050 by Jan. 31 for programs that will start in the spring. CMR High School's Tony Forster—named the first head baseball coach—said the fundraiser sparked local excitement.  KRTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Great Falls Theatre Company opens today at 7 p.m. at the University of Providence Theatre with its holiday staging of It’s a Wonderful Life. Directed by London Griffith, the production re-creates a historic radio broadcast style — a format featuring a 70-minute runtime with $20 tickets.  The Electric
  • A documentary celebrating five women who helped shape Great Falls received praise after being selected as a finalist for the Berlin Short Film Awards. Shannon Newth produced the film with Visit Great Falls and the History Museum (the film lasts 40 minutes) to bring local histories to life.  KRTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Twelve young Montanans, led by Rikki Held, filed a petition with the state Supreme Court to ask for a review of new laws that limit regulation of warming emissions and exempt some fossil-fuel projects. The expedited petition awaits a decision in the coming weeks.  Montana Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cascade County Justice Court hosts its annual Food For Fines event on Dec. 10, 11 and 12 from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in Great Falls. Current fine payers with no warrants can reduce one monthly payment by donating 10 approved nonperishable food items — conditions apply.  KRTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Edible cookie dough sold in Great Falls and 14 other states is under recall by Hudson River Foods for salmonella risk. Consumers should check 12-ounce packages with a best by date of July 4, as this class I recall is ongoing.  Great Falls Tribune
