Providence's closure runs through Aug. 2027

  1. Dec. 2025The Board of Trustees declared financial exigency.
  2. Oct. 27The board voted to cease educational operations after 2026-27.

If you have a student, a job or a diploma tied to the University of Providence, this one is yours. The Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to end educational operations, NBC Montana reports. KRTV says board chair Terry Cosgrove put it plainly: "We just needed to attract more students to make it viable."

Students, registration continues and campus housing stays available, KRTV reports. Some will graduate before instruction ends. Others will finish through a agreement with a partner school or transfer. The Montana University System is helping, and NonStop Local Montana also covers the announcement. KRTV reports individual employee meetings begin Wednesday.

Montana Free Press reports Providence health system was giving the school around $8 million a year and announced it would end that support by the end of 2027. The Electric notes the university's release did not say what happens to its buildings and property.

Cascade County charged a man over forged petition signatures, and authorities want to find him

Nathan Ross Harlan faces four misdemeanor counts of accountability for deceptive election practices, KRTV reports. The charges involve allegedly forged signatures on 2026 petitions for independent candidates Seth Bodnar and Michael Eisenhauer. NonStop Local Montana says the signatures weren't counted and neither campaign did anything wrong.

The case centers on four petition packets

The Electric says the charges were filed in Justice Court on Oct. 23 and Harlan is believed to be out of state. If convicted, he faces up to six months in county jail and/or a $500 fine. Montana Free Press says he appeared to be based in Oxford, Miss.

  • If you know where he is: Detective Allison, 406-836-0010
  • Press conference: Wed., Oct. 28, 8 a.m.
  • Past addresses: nine states, from Ohio to Alabama
  • Old license listed him at 5 feet 9 inches, 210 pounds

Montana Talks notes these are allegations, and Harlan still has to go through the court system.

The petition case ran from February to October

  1. Feb. 12Ballot Access Marketing signed Harlan as a subcontractor.
  2. Mar. 19Harlan bought a Cascade County voter file for $200.
  3. May 26Elections officials brought their concerns to the sheriff and county attorney.
  4. Oct. 23Charges were filed and an arrest warrant was issued.
  5. Oct. 28Authorities will hold a press conference at 8 a.m.
