Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 13th of May.
Good morning, Great Falls.
Delta Air Lines will end its direct flights from Great Falls to Minneapolis-Saint Paul in September because slow bookings and a weak economy force the change.
Airport officials said the same number of Delta seats will remain available and the route may return next summer if conditions improve.
Great Falls musical icon Harold 'Bud' Nicholls died on May 11 at age 85.
He taught music and performed with local bands — he received the Paris Gibson Award in June for his lasting impact on our community.
Montana’s U.S. Reps. Ryan Zinke and Troy Downing joined a bipartisan caucus on May 7 in Washington D.C. — the group will work to protect public lands and guide management efforts as a large portion of the state is federally owned.
At its May 6 meeting, city commissioners approved the purchase of a 3.23 acre parcel at 5200 2nd Ave. N. for $374,000 to build a future regional stormwater pond (expected to ease storm sewer capacity issues and allow a sanitary sewer lift) that will support improved stormwater management in the area.
Lawmakers changed Smith River permit rules so Montana residents will have a better shot at floating the river next year—nonresident permits are capped at 10 percent and bonus point fees for nonresidents rose from $50 to $125 while locals pay only $5.
The changes follow efforts from recent sessions to improve permit access for in-state applicants and help fund river preservation.
