COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The city of Great Falls will open Electric City Water Park on June 6 with a lazy pool, slides, a heated outdoor pool, and a new splash pad funded by grant money that replaces the baby pool—two neighborhood pools at Jaycee Pool (Fourth Street and 26th Avenue NE) and Water Tower Pool (34th Street and 7th Avenue South) will open on June 16 from 1 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.  KRTV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fewer Canadians are traveling to Great Falls as a weak Canadian dollar makes trips more expensive, with Sweetgrass border crossings falling nearly 20%. Campground owner Bobby Boatman said local businesses expect summer crowds to return — some visitors may delay trips — as the busy season approaches.  KXLH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Great Falls Public Schools is transferring intervention teachers to elementary classrooms to cover a shortage of 15-17 classroom teachers for the upcoming school year, which has raised concerns among educators and families about reduced support for struggling students. The district said it will announce assignments before the end of the current school year and may restore intervention roles if more classroom teacher applications are received (a move meant to meet Title 1 and accreditation requirements).  The Electric
  • Great Falls Public Schools will host a ceremony where graduating Native American seniors from Great Falls, CM Russell, and Paris Gibson Education Center will receive eagle feathers before taking the stage. The feather, considered a powerful gift in many Native American cultures (symbolizing strength and accomplishment), honors the students' success.  KRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents met with five Cascade County legislators—Senator Wendy McKamey, Senator Jeremy Trebas, Representative Eric Tilleman, Representative Steve Fitzpatrick and Representative Jane Weber—at a public forum on Wednesday evening to ask questions about taxes, Medicaid, Medicare, social service programs and climate change. The forum, organized by Citizens 4 Government Transparency, aimed to boost local involvement in government.  KXLH
  • City of Great Falls held public forums this week to discuss using tax increment funding to support downtown housing projects — a plan meant to fix vacant spaces and ease the housing shortage — and officials will present the plan to the city commission for a vote by the end of summer. If approved, projects will start next year — city leaders expect the new units to boost local safety —.  KRTV
